About Us

A Family Legacy in Agriculture

The Reed family has been raising cattle and growing crops in Republic County, Kansas for many years. Mark and Saundra were both raised on cattle, hog, and grain operations, carrying forward a strong legacy of agriculture, stewardship, and hard work.

Over the past 20 years, both of their sons-in-law have returned to Courtland to farm and ranch full time, while daughters Katie and Neely pursued off-farm careers, built their families, and remained closely connected to the family’s agricultural roots.

How The Beef Shop Began

The Beef Shop came to life in 2022 when Mark and Saundra’s youngest daughter stepped away from her banking career to spend more time with family and invest in the family’s agricultural businesses.

What began as a small garage operation quickly grew into local deliveries of home-raised beef—shared with friends, neighbors, and community members who valued knowing exactly where their food comes from.

Our Home in Courtland

As demand continued to grow, the family purchased a small home in Courtland to serve as a dedicated retail space. Today, that space is home to The Beef Shop retail market and also houses Kaneali Ag, LLC, an ag-based bookkeeping business owned and operated by Neely and Saundra—further reflecting the family’s commitment to supporting agriculture and rural business.

In the summer of 2025, the eldest Reed daughter joined the family business after leaving her career in agriculture education, helping continue to expand and elevate the vision.

The Beef Shop continues to grow and evolve as a family-run market rooted in tradition, quality, and community. We are humbled by the support we’ve received and grateful for the opportunity to serve families for years to come.
